Henna Artist

Elizebeth Tong

Elizebeth Tong was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and has lived in the South for most of her life. Since she was a child, she has been fascinated by cultures around the world, and has sought to learn
as much as she can about each of them. Cultures of the Far and Middle East especially interested her, as the food, clothing, music and customs were so different from her own.  A friend from India introduced her to henna, and she spent years perfecting the styles, application techniques and recipes that come with the ancient art. She currently resides in Athens, Georgia, after a recent move from Savannah. Always interested in new ways to adorn the body, she has just graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in metals and jewelry, where she also took classes in drawing, 2-d design, and oil painting.  She has been doing henna professionally since 2001, and started the company Crimson Art Henna in 2006 to include other artists and assistants. http://www.crimsonart.com/

Artist Guest of Honor:  Marrus  www.marrusart.com

Marrus started her career in NYC selling animation to some of the world’s top advertising agencies, but soon began illustrating comics for Valiant, DC and ElfQuest, painting book and album covers, and illustrations for magazines and entertainment companies.  After 12 years of the “Big Hard”, she relocated to the “Big Easy”.  Despite hardships created by hurricane Katrina, she remains utterly inspired by the city’s ethereal light, graceful architecture and its undying passion for creativity, laughter and beauty.  Marrus will have her body painting supplies with her in the Dealer’s Room this year so go by and get some of your own living art while you here.

Amul Kumar www.amul.biz

“I am frequently frustrated by the prevailing myth of photography as a form of truth. My imagery consists of lies and fictions, sometimes depicting the misconceptions we develop about relationships, and other times crafting works that are wholly fiction for the sake of fiction. Perhaps it can be said that there are subtler truths to be found in the sweet desolation of children’s playgrounds at night, and maybe I successfully connect to something universal in those soft, sensual nudes which depict women in ways we’re taught not to look for. At a minimum, my photography usually revels in the masks we wear, and so the only truth you can find in my images are the kind heard when we shout our lies from bell towers and roof tops.”

Germaine Cahoon  www.relevantpink.com

Germaine Cahoon lives in Athens, GA, where she meanders deliberately through completing her studio art and comparative literature degrees. Inspired at an early age by fantasy artist Brian Froud, and later by comic book artists such as Chris Bachalo and Joe Madureira and Japanese artists such as Akemi Takada, she has been doodling her own quirky ideas since she could hold a pencil.  Now she mostly finds herself drawing fun, flirty, and fanciful cartoon pin-up babes, and wouldn't have it any other way.  Through her work she explores the humor, sorrows, pleasures, and pains of both womanhood and humanity on the whole, with a fondness for exciting color and more than a touch of the weird and macabre."

Michael Bielaczyc    www.aradani.com

In a culture seemingly devoid of imagination, Michael Bielaczyc finds himself drawn to the fantastical.  Never trying to limit his imagination or artwork, Michael uses any medium available, from steel to graphite, digital to literary.  The main body of Michael’s work deals with mythological fantasy, recontextualizing it with contemporary issues.

Kevin Foureman  www.darkmannequin.com
Dark Mannequin Designs is the name used by Kevin Foureman to cover the many areas of artwork he is involved in. Those include drawing, painting, model building, and his photography. The photography has become the area of most of his concentration at this
time. The collaboration and interaction with the models he uses has made this so much fun he just seems to keep heading deeper into it creating more and more images.

His main areas of interest are Goth, Industrial, Punk, Pin-Up, Fetish, Fashion, J-Rock, Gothic/Lolita, Horror,  and so much more. In the last couple years he has been involved in many art shows, a few conventions here and there, and has been published in several publications including, Redefine, Elegy, Echo Immortalis, Gothic Beauty, and Broadsword Comics Tarot.

There are many more projects in the works for the coming year. He looks forward to seeing everyone at Frolicon again this year.

Sarah Clemens  www.clemensart.com

Sarah Clemens has freelanced in logo design and book cover illustration and photograph, been a curator of exhibits at a science museum and been a medical illustrator for the last fifteen years.  Self-expression became a driving force, and she began creating her own challenges in the form of large oil paintings of friends and family members.  A recent move to the southwest has been inspiring, and trips to the Grand Canyon for intensive photographic shoots are sure to show up in her paintings.

Samantha Spears:  www.tsiphotos.com

The human form is amazing!  That’s why it is one of Samantha Spears’ favorite subjects in her fine art photography.

Each curve and line of the human body is a unique piece of art in and of itself.  Since she first picked up a camera 30+ years ago, she has been cropping the viewfinder to isolate particular segments of her subject matter.  The images presented in this series are all of/from community members who have given of themselves/their collections very graciously.  I hope you enjoy these images as much as I have enjoyed capturing them.

All of the images for sale at Frolicon will generate a 10% donation to NLAF (http://www.nlaf.us).

Samantha Spears is the owner of TSI Photography (http://www.tsiphotos.com) an Atlanta based full service photography company.
