Party Battles

A staple of Frolicon. Saturday night, give us your best Frolic and win acclaim and adulation.

Party Battles

As the hotel doesn't want us using the word party, we're having a competition to see who has the best hospitality. Personally, I think it has a nice ring to it.

While not 'officially' a party, you don't want to miss...
Flirt with the Green Fairy

Absinthe is the elixir that's notorious for altering the mind and inducing colorful hallucinations... those who know its delights and perils often refer to their encounters with it as "dancing with the Green Fairy."  Rumor has it that it was absinthe that made Oscar wild, Van Gogh cut off his ear, and Hemmingway forget punctuation in "For Whom The Bell Tolls." And legends indicate that vampires are immune to its hallucinatory effects.

If you've ever wondered if the stories about Absinthe were true, here's your chance to find out. Come join author and vampire Vi Johnson for an Absinthe tasting party. A number of bottles of the REAL forbidden drink have been brought to the US so that you can sample this secret substance straight, and/or in a cocktail.

A $50 donation will get you at least two tastings. Funds raised (less expenses) will be sent to the Woodhull Foundation to help preserve our rights.

Thursday Night

Ready Steady Go!

The notorious party-meisters of Jonestown After Dark once again present the Thursday Night Frolicon Kickoff party, this time with MOD SOUNDS of SWINGING LONDON.

Mod example

The kids are alright! Come dressed to impress in your best Carnaby Street fashion and dance to the NOW SOUND OF TODAY’S MODERN YOUTH!

Friday

Cuddle Party
This is a very fun way to connect with people you know and people you have never met on a very visceral level. It’s a giant puppy pile of people, touching, holding and talking without an avert sexual motivation. So, you may ask why would you want to do it? It is the ultimate ice breaker where you can break down normal boundaries and have real connections in very short periods of time. People come to Cuddle Party to strengthen self-assertiveness and the ability to establish and set healthy boundaries, and to diminish and release blocks to connecting with others. They also come for the social magic that occurs when you re-introduce touch into a warm and fun adult social setting.

Friday Night

ConCoction Contest

Test your skill at making a delicious adult beverages and be judged by the thirsty masses (All Frolicon attendees will receive a ConCoction ballot in their registration bag). For those interested in competing, here’s how it works:

  1. Register your ConCoction name and Room number with the Native Guides by 4 P.M. on Friday
  2. All registered rooms will have a flyer placed on their door with all the participating rooms listed on it, so that people can know where to go to sample every entrant.
  3. Be prepared to dispense your ConCoction from your room from 10 P.M. to Midnight on Friday night. The room can be decorated with a theme if you like, but this is not neccesary.
  4. Dispense samples of your ConCoction
  5. After sampling the entrants, Frolicon attendees should go to the Native Guides area, write their badge number on their ballot, and drop it into the box corresponding to the ConCoction they liked the best.

The winning ConCoction will receive 2 party judge badges, 2 Frolicon tshirts, 2 Frolicon mugs and 2 passes for Frolicon 2009

The Reverend (9jack9@gmail.com) offers there tips for participants, if anyone has any additional questions about the contest, please contact him:

  1. Use a 5 gallon round cooler to hold your ConCoction. It allows you to mix a large batch at once and is easy to move and clean up.
  2. The best cups for sampling are 3 oz. disposable bathroom cups. You want to make sure as many people as possible get a sample.
  3. While you are supposed to be judged soley on the ConCoction itself, coming up with a fun theme and having decorating the room will make your ConCoction memorable in the addled minds of voters.

Saturday Night
All HAIL THE PARTY BATTLES!!!! We have at least 6 groups with assigned rooms already, so Saturday night is shaping up to be the best set of party battles yet.

Frolicon Party Rules
You're at Frolicon to enjoy yourself; we're here to help you do it safely and responsibly. Whether you're having a party or attending one, please respect the hotel's property, the law, the authority of our security team, each other, and yourself.

For everyone:
  • No smoking on the party floor. That includes stairwells and restrooms. If you HAVE to smoke, please step outside to do so.
  • If you're handing out drinks, make sure everyone you give them to is 21 or older.
  • If you're under 21, don't even try to drink. We know, it's tempting. But seriously: don't.
  • If you get angry, sloppy, or stupid when you drink, don't drink...or don't attend.
  • If you have guests in the room, it's still YOUR room, on YOUR credit card. Leave it the way you found it.
  • Here's the catch-all rule: listen to our security team; they're courteous, helpful professionals. If there's a problem they can't handle, they have radios to summon our courteous, helpful off-duty police officers.
  • If you blatantly break these rules or otherwise make an ass of yourself, your badge may be revoked, you may be ejected from the hotel, and you will be held responsible for your actions.
  • Relax. If you're nice to the hotel and the people in it, and you enjoy yourself responsibly, you won't even notice these rules.
For all those friendly, hospitable people who plan to throw parties, er, um 'hospitality events':
  • E-mail Hotel with your reservation info. We'll make sure your room is in the right place, and he'll go over the hospitality rules with you.
  • If you're throwing a party to promote an event or group, e-mail Parties. We'll get your information online.
  • Before your party opens, the Frolicon security team will stop by to introduce themselves. They'll give the room a quick inspection, offer helpful suggestions, and tell you how to reach them if you need them.
